Wit Maverick had long been one of my favorite directors at VCA Pictures when they had bigger budgets to work with. His sense of style and eye for capturing visually interesting sex scenes propelled him right to the top of my list along with the legendary Jim Holliday and talented Veronica Hart. I was surprised to see he was still making porn recently when I picked up a copy of his latest movie, Shag, a title reminiscent of some of his smaller works (I never saw his Sopornos titles sadly enough). It didn't set out to be a larger than life feature but I still liked it on several levels. Here's a quick look at the scenes by cast and action, noting that condoms weren't used and most of the gals were looking very fetching.

For most people, the best extra on the Shag Dvd will be the 7 minute long bonus scene where Cindy Crawford masturbated by the pool outdoors. It was probably as good a scene as you'll find from any of her back catalog work at JKP (even without a guy) but it wasn't the best action she's been in either. For my tastes, I liked the 11.5 minute long Behind the Scenes feature by Malachi Ecks although to be fair, he spent most of the time with Cindy and in the make up room with Katja Kassin (she had funny stories about guys refusing to take her anally). There was also a slide show, some trailers, and spam but most people will only care about the first two extras.

Shag might not win any awards for blockbuster breakthroughs but it had enough fuck for the buck, enough attractive performers, and enough solid extras to win it a Recommended from this jaded old porn hound. Director Wit Maverick showed he still had the stuff to bring out some solid performances from a host of gals of all types and while fans of Cindy Crawford might not be as happy with the release as they probably wanted to be (while the focus of the movie, her sex role wasn't all that large), it should be noted that in all her work for JKP, she really wasn't allowed to do all that much anyway. Still, Katja, Sandra and Texas all gave decent performances and the others weren't bad either so check Shag out.
