Pre Viewing Expectations
The case says Up 'N Coming is a classic porn release, and briefly describes the plot. Most of the space on the back is used to list the extras included on the disc, and what a list it is, right down to the Dolby 5.1 sound. Too bad the case tells one how to find the bonus photos, half of the fun would have been searching around the various menus looking for the hidden tag.

The Main Event
Up 'N Coming is a golden age classic from the early days of Porn. It was produced in the early 1980's and stars the one and only Marilyn Chambers. She brings her own energy to any movie she stars in, which is just as hot now as it was the day she shot it. This movie is no exception. There are eight scenes in total, with Marilyn appearing in a majority of those. Many of the scenes show actions we take for granted today, but were virtually unheard of back then. Those include ass licking/fingering, double penetration, and group sex.

Plot
The plot centers on the trials and tribulations of up and coming country music singer, Cassie Harland (Marilyn Chambers). Cassie learns that PR equals giving good head and falling legends, Lisa DeLeeuw, don't take their loss of stardom lightly. The acting and character development are excellent. So good that you really don't want to see the mean Lisa get any good sex (though she does get a nice threesome with her studly thug and his girlie.)

Sex
A few sex scenes stand out. Marilyn and Hershel Savage have a short, but hot scene that culminates in a cum shot where his dick is pressed against her pussy. This kind of intimacy is such a nice departure from the cold, 'where can I shoot my gun' of today's porn. While watching the movie, I thought, "Wow - these two have an incredible rapport." Ironically, Hershel says in the commentary that Marilyn is simply one heck of an actress.
On her debut tour Marilyn runs into two boys (over 18, of course) she used to sing with (one being the now famous Tom Byron.) I sat there hoping she would take on these two cute youngins and my wish came true. So here's Marilyn flat on her back swallowing one guy and getting pounded by the other - in front of a romantic fire with soft music in the background - hunh???? Strange juxtaposition aside, the two young men thing is a fantasy for many women. The abrupt end of the scene (no cum shot) was a real disappointment.
Meanwhile on a yacht near Catalina, Cody Nicole, who looks like crap until she takes her Elton John glasses off, pleasures Marilyn with a couple fingers in each hole. The two look great together - two hard bodies with small, perky breasts writhing in ecstasy. I wish Cody reappeared in the final orgy with John Holmes instead of the strange girl with the blonde, fuzzy pussy. The fuzzy girl really took away from what could have been the best sex scene in the movie (sadly Holmes' only scene.) Something must have happened to the original footage because the movie ends with Holmes about to stick his big genius into Marilyn's little hole (so to speak.)

The Details
The Up 'N Coming sex action is hot, complete with Marilyn's dirty talk and trademark pouty lips. She is one of the all time favorite stars in Porn, so how can you go wrong? Once you look behind the action, there are a few rough spots in this feature, which one will need to be aware of if considering adding this to their collection. This movie is a big budget feature, so no expense was spared when it was shot. Therefore, a lot of time and attention is spent on building up the plot line of the movies. The more time paid to the plot, the less time there is for sex. There are a few long dry spells between the nookie scenes, quite different from modern features.
Since Up 'N Coming was originally shot on film, one gets all the drawbacks associated with that medium. There are many noticable flaws and scratches in the film, which are evident after the transfer to DVD. The video is a bit muted, and not as crisp as one would expect, again due to its originating on film.
A pretty good job was done on the soundtrack getting it up to modern specs. There are a few spots where the stereo is lost, not sure what the cause of this was. When it first happened, it was disconcerting as I thought I lost a speaker. This freaked me out as the volume wasn't loud. Then the audio switched from one speaker to the other, tipping me off that there was a problem with the soundtrack transfer.
There is quite a list of extras on this disc. First there is an audio commentary track, which gives some interesting insight into this movie and its stars. There is the typical chapter index and a section called Club Marilyn. In this section is a photo gallery of just Marilyn, and her bio. Next there is a slide show, which has shots taken from the movie. This is followed by bios of other members of the cast. There is a trivia game, which requires one to have paid attention during the movie to get through. Get even one question wrong, and one must start all over again. While I won't give away the prize at the end of the quiz, I was a bit underwhelemed by it. There are two previews on the disc, both for other vintage porn releases. Lastly, there is web site info. Hidden on the disc are some additonal photos, how to access these are noted on the case back. Quite a list, especially if you are a fan of Marilyn. Modern productions should take note and give us this much.

Conclusion
A classic from the early days of porn, and staring Marilyn Chambers, how can you lose? If you like well laid out plot lines, are a fan of Marilyn Chambers, or like vintage porn, you'll be pleased with this newly remastered Up 'N Coming release. I wouldn't let my collection be without an iCandy DVD or a classic Marilyn flick. But for the plot fearing, gonzo fanatics, this is not the movie for you. While there are 7 sex scenes, they don't add up to the intensity of the pool table scene in Insatiable (no, I can never get enough of that scene.) Marilyn is great, in and out of the bedroom. And Up 'n Coming goes on my short list of fast-forward free DVDs (I enjoyed the whole thing.) I feel greatly indebted to iCandy for raising the bar in adult DVD.
