Through The Looking Glass is a haunting and disturbing adult film to say the least. Through The Looking Glass was originally distributed in two, possibly even three, different versions ranging from the XXX-rated version seen here to an R-Rated version. The music here is excellent, bears no resemblance to normal porn music and fits the film and the sex action scenes and adds to the haunting feeling the film portrays. The original plot appears to have been created for a B-grade mainstream release and then changed to an adult release. I’ve always wanted to see a well done adult horror film, and Through The Looking Glass is certainly it. Almost every scene in Through The Looking Glass is designed to shock as well as titillating the viewer. The cast is a blend of B-grade mainstream and adult talent and the acting talents vary greatly. For the most part, the cast does a good job with their roles. The use of so many B-grade mainstream talents indicates that at first this film might have been non-pornographic. Especially the use of Catherine Erhardt, billed here as Catharine Burgess, as the lead where they reputedly had to use a stunt pussy for her sex scenes. Needless to say the sex scenes with her are lacking as shots involving penetration can’t show her face and any shot showing her face is stimulated sex only. As for the sex scenes, they appear to be trying to shock as well as arouse. Most of the scenes only involve one sexual act being performed. For instance the strange scene when a demon hand is fingering Catherine Erhardt’s pussy. There is also a nasty rape scene with Catherine Erhardt and Jamie Gillis’s demon. A very disturbing coercion scene between Jamie Gillis (as Catherine’s father) and a young-adult version of Catherine. Some of the other assorted disturbing imagery is a woman in a bathtub filled with mud and urine that another woman is pissing in and an acrobat bent over himself jerking off into his own face. The most normal scene in the entire film consisted of a woman giving her brother a blow job. The sexual themes in the film are oral and vaginal sex with vaginal fingering, female masturbation, incest, douche, lesbianism, male masturbation, food, peeing and rape (coercion). For viewers who care about such things, no condoms were used in Through The Looking Glass. The sets used in the film are decent, especially considering the obvious low budget for the feature. Hell itself was shot in a desert somewhere, probably somewhere in California, which works somewhat.

“So, as far as I'm concerned, Through The Looking Glass is a unique and excellent piece of film work, one which any student of the classic porn genre would do well to take a look at. A 2nd viewing exposes many nuances that would have been missed the first time around. Its replay value is very good - if you're interested in thinking about it even more.”

The acting, photography, direction, and musical score are all pitch perfect and work hand in hand to create a terrifying visual feast, the likes of which is rarely seen on the Hollywood picture screen, let alone in an X-Rated film. It is also no surprise that Through The Looking Glass's composers, Harry Manfredini and Arlon Ober both achieved success in the world of Hollywood. It is a shame that director Middleton's only other credits are the elusive Cherry Blossom and Illusions Of A Lady, for he was as gifted a director as any in Hollywood. The cast, consisting of seasoned veterans such as Terri Hall, Nancy Dare (who made far too few films) and Kim Pope, as well as genre hags Al Levitsky and Bobby Astyr, are wonderfully fitted for their roles and even Levitsky, although renowned for his inability to read lines gives a solid performance. Through The Looking Glass is a true classic. Any self respecting film lover ought to do him or herself a favor and find this gem.”
